Le changement climatique \u00e0 Thunder Bay<\/b><\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Ce que nous appelons aujourd'hui le Canada se r\u00e9chauffe deux fois plus vite que le reste du monde, mais en tant que pays si vaste et si diversifi\u00e9 g\u00e9ographiquement, les impacts ne sont pas r\u00e9partis de mani\u00e8re \u00e9gale. Chaque r\u00e9gion a un contexte g\u00e9ographique, social, politique et \u00e9conomique unique, ce qui signifie qu'il n'existe pas d'approche globale unique en mati\u00e8re d'adaptation au changement climatique et d'att\u00e9nuation de ses effets. Cela est particuli\u00e8rement vrai pour les communaut\u00e9s rurales, et encore plus pour le Nord du Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thunder Bay* est confront\u00e9e \u00e0 plusieurs d\u00e9fis lorsqu'il s'agit de faire face au changement climatique. Avec une population de 110 000 habitants, c'est un centre urbain - mais comme il se trouve \u00e9galement \u00e0 500 kilom\u00e8tres de la ville la plus proche, Thunder Bay est le centre r\u00e9gional d'une zone tr\u00e8s rurale. Elle fait \u00e9galement partie du <\/span>Nord canadien<\/a><\/span>mais est suffisamment m\u00e9ridionale pour pr\u00e9senter des diff\u00e9rences climatiques et g\u00e9ographiques significatives par rapport aux Territoires. Le contexte de Thunder Bay fait qu'il est difficile de suivre les strat\u00e9gies d'adaptation et d'att\u00e9nuation employ\u00e9es par d'autres villes ; de m\u00eame, l'activisme climatique \u00e0 Thunder Bay ne peut pas n\u00e9cessairement utiliser les m\u00eames strat\u00e9gies que le mouvement dans d'autres r\u00e9gions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aussi, lorsque les d\u00e9fenseurs du climat ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait temps de d\u00e9ployer un effort de collaboration et de coh\u00e9sion pour lutter contre la crise climatique, le Rassemblement du Nord-Ouest s'est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sous un jour un peu diff\u00e9rent de celui des \u00e9v\u00e9nements similaires organis\u00e9s dans le sud du pays.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Qu'est-ce que le Rassemblement climatique du Nord-Ouest ?<\/b><\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>
\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

La premi\u00e8re diff\u00e9rence se trouve dans le nom m\u00eame de la conf\u00e9rence : <\/span>\" Rassemblement\".<\/span><\/i>Il nous indique d'embl\u00e9e qu'il ne s'agira pas d'une conf\u00e9rence privil\u00e9giant les cours magistraux ou l'acquisition de comp\u00e9tences individuelles - le terme \"Rassemblement\" est d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment employ\u00e9 pour cr\u00e9er une communaut\u00e9. En novembre 2023, 170 citoyens se sont r\u00e9unis sous le th\u00e8me de <\/span>l'espoir et de l'action<\/span><\/i> pour cr\u00e9er des liens, partager leur travail et discuter de la mani\u00e8re d'aborder l'action climatique dans la r\u00e9gion. Soutenu par la <\/span>Havre jeunesse par la Bourse d\u2019Assembl\u00e9e<\/span><\/a><\/span>le Rassemblement a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un lieu o\u00f9 la sagesse de chacun est valoris\u00e9e et partag\u00e9e lat\u00e9ralement. Des experts locaux, des a\u00een\u00e9s autochtones, des artistes et des activistes de tous niveaux d'exp\u00e9rience ont particip\u00e9 aux discussions et aux s\u00e9ances en petits groupes tout au long du week-end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Le rassemblement a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 l'occasion pour les participants d'exprimer leurs \u00e9motions et leur d\u00e9sarroi face \u00e0 l'\u00e9volution du climat. Les effets du changement climatique sont souvent plus prononc\u00e9s dans le nord du Canada que dans le sud, et le fait d'\u00eatre t\u00e9moin de ces changements en si peu de temps peut susciter des sentiments de d\u00e9tresse, d'anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 et de solastalgie. Le rassemblement a reconnu tout ce qui rend la r\u00e9gion de Thunder Bay unique et a encourag\u00e9 les gens \u00e0 se connecter par le biais de ces exp\u00e9riences et \u00e9motions communes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Bilan du rassemblement<\/b><\/h3><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>
\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Le succ\u00e8s du rassemblement tient en grande partie au fait qu'il a permis de cr\u00e9er des liens entre les personnes, en particulier des relations interg\u00e9n\u00e9rationnelles. Les personnes de tous \u00e2ges et de toutes exp\u00e9riences d\u00e9tiennent la sagesse, et c'est en partageant cette sagesse que la communaut\u00e9 peut cr\u00e9er une compr\u00e9hension globale de ce \u00e0 quoi l'action climatique peut ressembler dans la r\u00e9gion. Des adolescents, des retrait\u00e9s et tous ceux qui se trouvent entre les deux ont parl\u00e9 de leurs exp\u00e9riences et pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 leurs espoirs pour un Thunder Bay plus fort.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un avenir qui valorise toutes les exp\u00e9riences n'est pas forc\u00e9ment tr\u00e8s \u00e9loign\u00e9, comme le prouve le rassemblement. Ce fut un lieu o\u00f9 les artistes ont pu partager leur art, les a\u00een\u00e9s transmettre leur savoir traditionnel et les universitaires discuter des recherches en cours et \u00e0 venir. Il a donn\u00e9 aux personnes qui ont travaill\u00e9 dur sur les strat\u00e9gies de lutte contre le changement climatique l'occasion de nouer des contacts et de cr\u00e9er un mouvement plus fort et plus uni. Elle a soulign\u00e9 que l'action climatique ne se r\u00e9sume pas \u00e0 des piquets de gr\u00e8ve et \u00e0 des marches, et que tout le monde est le bienvenu et appr\u00e9ci\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n

Il n'est pas \u00e9tonnant que les participants aient quitt\u00e9 le rassemblement avec un sentiment d'inspiration. L'\u00e9v\u00e9nement a dynamis\u00e9 le mouvement local et a d\u00e9j\u00e0 facilit\u00e9 la collaboration entre les personnes qui travaillent sur le climat dans la r\u00e9gion. La Thunder Bay Art Gallery pr\u00e9sente actuellement une exposition d'\u0153uvres d'art cr\u00e9\u00e9es et inspir\u00e9es par le rassemblement 2023, qui se poursuit jusqu'au 21 avril. Le comit\u00e9 directeur, qui a doubl\u00e9 de taille, se tourne d\u00e9j\u00e0 vers l'avenir en pr\u00e9parant le Rassemblement du Nord-Ouest de 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le Rassemblement du Nord-Ouest est un v\u00e9ritable t\u00e9moignage de l'incroyable travail sur le changement climatique r\u00e9alis\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9gion de Thunder Bay. Plus encore, c'est un t\u00e9moignage de la communaut\u00e9 qui se soucie si profond\u00e9ment non seulement de la terre sur laquelle elle vit, mais aussi des personnes avec lesquelles elle la partage.
