Une des grandes ironies de notre \u00e9poque est que les jeunes sont ceux qui travaillent le plus pour lutter contre le changement climatique, alors qu'ils sont le groupe qui souffre le plus et qui est le plus priv\u00e9 de ses droits dans le discours sur le changement climatique et la durabilit\u00e9. L'un des facteurs contribuant \u00e0 cette situation est qu'une grande partie du travail sur le changement climatique d\u00e9pend des personnes qui offrent leur temps et leurs comp\u00e9tences, ce qui cr\u00e9e un obstacle pour tous ceux qui ont la motivation de s'informer sur la justice climatique, mais qui n'ont pas les moyens \u00e9conomiques ou le savoir-faire n\u00e9cessaires pour poursuivre ce travail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Comment rem\u00e9dier \u00e0 cette situation ? L'une des solutions consiste \u00e0 permettre aux jeunes d'acc\u00e9der \u00e0 des emplois et \u00e0 des carri\u00e8res dans le secteur en plein essor des faibles \u00e9missions de carbone, et \u00e0 les aider \u00e0 s'engager dans des activit\u00e9s b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques pour leurs communaut\u00e9s. L'organisation Youth Climate Corps BC (YCCBC), dirig\u00e9e par Ben Simoni, directeur ex\u00e9cutif, est l'une des organisations qui d\u00e9fendent cette cause. Le YCCBC s'est donn\u00e9 pour mission de lutter contre la crise climatique par le biais d'une justice r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratrice, en dotant les jeunes des comp\u00e9tences n\u00e9cessaires pour mener \u00e0 bien des projets d'action climatique. Ces programmes, d'une dur\u00e9e de 4 \u00e0 6 mois, offrent aux participants un aper\u00e7u de la science climatique, des projets communautaires et des possibilit\u00e9s de carri\u00e8re dans le domaine de l'action climatique. Plus de 75 % des participants \u00e0 ces programmes continueront \u00e0 travailler dans le domaine de l'action climatique ou poursuivront leurs \u00e9tudes dans ce domaine !<\/span><\/p>\n

Simoni underscores the imperative of addressing climate anxiety among youth and fostering a resilient workforce to lead climate initiatives.\"More youth want to work within their values,\" Simoni asserts, highlighting a growing inclination towards careers intersecting with climate action and justice. One example Ben shared that demonstrates the growing opportunities in this sector is a hiring initiative by the American Climate Corps, aiming to emulate job creation efforts in Canada across sectors such as forestry and clean energy. There is the hope of creating the same project and work opportunities for the YCCBC in Canada*.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

En tant qu'organisation \u00e0 but non lucratif, elle recherche activement des financements pour soutenir ses projets en Colombie-Britannique et \u00eatre en mesure de verser des salaires d\u00e9cents aux jeunes travailleurs. Souvent, elle trouve des partenaires financiers aupr\u00e8s des gouvernements locaux, mais l'obtention de ces fonds peut prendre beaucoup de temps et n\u00e9cessiter des d\u00e9marches bureaucratiques. C'est pourquoi le financement fourni par la <\/span>La Bourse d'action Jeunesse Havre<\/span><\/a><\/span> a \u00e9t\u00e9 d'un grand soutien. La flexibilit\u00e9 du financement est particuli\u00e8rement utile, surtout lorsqu'il s'agit de trouver des fonds pour des initiatives dirig\u00e9es par des autochtones et pour lesquelles il n'y a pas de contr\u00f4le direct sur le terrain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lorsqu'on lui a demand\u00e9 quel projet il trouvait particuli\u00e8rement int\u00e9ressant, Ben a r\u00e9pondu en riant :<\/span>\"Tous sont int\u00e9ressants !<\/span><\/i>\u201d. One recent project is the Kwakwaka'wakw revitalization project, which focused on cultural resurgence, youth empowerment, and support from the elders and matriarchy. This was one project that Ben considered one of the organization's major achievements because they were able to develop a strong relationship with the community. Building strong community relationships remains pivotal for YCCBC, facilitating collaboration on impactful projects. Looking ahead, the organization endeavors to scale its programs across British Columbia, lobbying governments for increased funding and expanding its reach.<\/span><\/p>\n

L'une des fa\u00e7ons de mesurer leur impact est de suivre les journ\u00e9es d'action pour le climat - 7 000 d'entre elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es jusqu'\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent depuis leur cr\u00e9ation ! Un autre moyen est le nombre de participants, et depuis le lancement en 2020, plus de 80 jeunes ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 leurs programmes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alors que le YCCBC se lance dans des projets futurs, l'horizon regorge d'opportunit\u00e9s pour les jeunes de catalyser l'action climatique et la justice dans leurs communaut\u00e9s. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un r\u00e9seau de soutien et \u00e0 un engagement en faveur de l'autonomisation, la voie est trac\u00e9e pour que les jeunes deviennent des intendants et des leaders dans la lutte contre le changement climatique.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
