Naviguer dans le monde des organisations g\u00e9r\u00e9es par les \u00e9l\u00e8ves pose souvent des probl\u00e8mes, qu'il s'agisse des taux de rotation \u00e9lev\u00e9s ou de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 soutenir des projets \u00e0 long terme dans un contexte d'int\u00e9r\u00eats divergents. Mais que peut accomplir un groupe environnemental local dirig\u00e9 par des \u00e9tudiants en moins d'un an ? Selon Michelle Angkasa et C\u00e9line Isimbi, les fondatrices du Climate Justice Ecosystem de l'Universit\u00e9 de Waterloo*, c'est un travail consid\u00e9rable lorsqu'on se concentre sur un objectif collectif.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leur parcours a commenc\u00e9 au session d'hiver 2023 avec une id\u00e9e simple : organiser une coalition pour une gr\u00e8ve climatique sur le campus. Reconnaissant l'interconnexion de diverses initiatives sur le campus, Michelle et C\u00e9line ont cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 unir ces efforts sous un parapluie commun, plaidant pour la justice climatique. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une collaboration organique et \u00e0 un dialogue avec la communaut\u00e9 universitaire, elles ont d\u00e9couvert un \u00e9ventail de pr\u00e9occupations - de l'ins\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire \u00e0 la souverainet\u00e9 autochtone - qui se recoupent avec la justice climatique.<\/span><\/p>\n

En juin 2023, l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me de la justice climatique de l'universit\u00e9 de Washington a pris racine avec un noyau de huit organisat.eur.rices, dont l'objectif \u00e9tait d'organiser un rassemblement pour le climat en septembre. Pour consolider leur mission et leurs valeurs, iels ont m\u00e9ticuleusement \u00e9labor\u00e9 un ensemble de revendications, refl\u00e9tant la diversit\u00e9 des probl\u00e8mes affectant la communaut\u00e9 universitaire. Malgr\u00e9 le d\u00e9fi que repr\u00e9sente le renouvellement des \u00e9l\u00e8ves, Michelle et C\u00e9line ont structur\u00e9 leur groupe de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 ce que le nombre de membres fluctue, assurant ainsi la continuit\u00e9 de leurs efforts.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

Dans leur d\u00e9marche pour organiser l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me de justice climatique de l'Universit\u00e9 de Waterloo et orchestrer le rassemblement de gr\u00e8ve pour le climat sur le campus, Michelle et C\u00e9line ont trouv\u00e9 un soutien aupr\u00e8s de la <\/span>Bourse d'Assembl\u00e9e du Havre jeunesse<\/span><\/a><\/span>, qui a fourni des fonds cruciaux pour l'organisation d'\u00e9v\u00e9nements en personne qui rassemblent de jeunes militant.es pour le climat afin qu'iels collaborent et se connectent. Cette subvention a soutenu leurs efforts, leur permettant d'\u00e9tendre leur port\u00e9e et leur impact au sein de la communaut\u00e9 universitaire tout en relevant les d\u00e9fis des organisations dirig\u00e9es par des \u00e9l\u00e8ves.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c0 l'approche du rassemblement, le duo a organis\u00e9 des r\u00e9unions, forg\u00e9 des partenariats et r\u00e9dig\u00e9 sans <\/span>rel\u00e2che une lettre ouverte<\/span><\/span><\/a> pour transmettre leur vision collective. Avec plus de 200 signatures et l'appui de six groupes du campus, leurs efforts ont soulign\u00e9 la r\u00e9sonance de leur message au sein de la communaut\u00e9. En donnant la priorit\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9ducation et en encourageant le dialogue, iels ont combl\u00e9 le foss\u00e9 entre la justice climatique et des pr\u00e9occupations connexes telles que le logement et la sant\u00e9 mentale.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"The big challenge of student-led movements is that a university setting comes with a high turnover rate,\" Michelle Angkasa reflected. \"There is no institutional memory of previous efforts led by students who are no longer actively involved on campus.\"<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>

The rally itself served as a platform for diverse voices to address pressing issues, attracting a diverse audience of students, faculty, and community members. With the culmination of the rally and the open letter, Michelle and Celine's legacy extends beyond their tenure. The UW Climate Justice Ecosystem now stands poised to champion initiatives such as <\/span>d\u00e9sinvestissement des combustibles fossiles<\/span><\/a><\/span>, incarnant l'esprit de l'activisme populaire.<\/span><\/p>\n
